The number one entry in this list of "15 Podcasts That Will Make You Smarter" suggested that the venerable "This American Life" is

one of the most listened podcasts of our generation

It made me laugh. "Podcast" is, of course, a portmanteau owing half its heritage to the iPod, which wasn't introduced until 2001. I'm fairly certain that if the TAL podcast is one of the most listened to podcasts of our generation, it is also the most listened to of all time.
